CEP Joins Letter to Congress Supporting ESAs for Military Families

On April 3rd, Members of the U.S. Congress received a letter expressing strong support for the Education Savings Accounts for Military Families Act of 2018 (H.R. 5199). This letter was written by more than 30 organizations and the millions of families that they represent. Among the signers are the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the National Catholic Education Association, and Catholic Education Partners.

If signed into law, the ESA for Military Families Act would establish education savings accounts (ESA) for students in military families throughout the country. This would give families financial assistance in a wide variety of areas, such as paying for tuition, tutoring, online learning, and other approved educational expenses. Due to their unique circumstances, children in military families would benefit greatly from the certainty, flexibility, and customization allowed by access to an ESA.

Catholic Church doctrine clearly states the rights of parents in directing their child’s education – and that includes the rights of parents in military families. Catholic Education Partners is proud to join with our fellow Catholic education groups and express our support for HR 5199.
